How we do it

Upholstery, expertly cleaned.

Your furniture collects as much dirt as your flooring, if not more. Food and drink, skin oils, pet hair, allergens and ordinary dust all settle into the fibers. You might not see it, but there is a lot more than your family sitting on that sofa.

Upholstery takes body oils and daily contact that carpet never sees, and fabrics vary far more than carpet does. We check the manufacturer's cleaning code, test for colorfastness, then clean with the right amount of moisture and the right tools.

Fabric protectant is available after cleaning to make the next spill easier to deal with.

Step by step

What happens on the visit.

  1. 01

    Fabric code and colorfast test

We read the manufacturer's code and test an inconspicuous spot so the method matches the fabric.

  2. 02

    Pre-treatment

Arms, headrests and cushion tops get the most contact, so they get the most attention before cleaning.

  3. 03

    Clean

Low-moisture or hot-water extraction, depending on the fabric.

  4. 04

    Dry and protect

Fabric dries in a few hours. Optional protectant helps spills bead up instead of soaking in. We also leave you a spot out bottle for unforeseen touch-ups, and we refill it for free the next time we're out.

Reviews

What customers say about our upholstery work.

★★★★★
“I have used Langenwalter for carpet and rug cleaning, but never upholstery. We were having family over for Easter and my sofas needed lots of help. Chris came in, explained the process and quoted the price. He was quick and efficient. My sofas look and smell much better! Another great job by Langenwalter!”

“Scott was amazing. Not only do my carpets and sectional look mew but my dog has a new best friend. Scott was professional, kind, hard working and trustworthy. I'm already looking forward to the next time he comes out (and Bogie is too).”

“Exceptional customer service and friendly staff. On the recommendation of a neighbor we contacted this company and were not disappointed. Service provider came to our home to clean the upholstery, and we realized we probably should have requested the rugs be cleaned as well. We discussed options for cleaning our area rugs while he was here. We delivered the rugs to their facility for a deep cleaning. Excellent work!”

Questions

Common questions

How long does upholstery take to dry?

Usually two to six hours depending on the fabric and the method. We use the least moisture the fabric allows, and a fan or air conditioning speeds it up.

What about microfiber?

Microfiber cleans up very well, but it needs the right method to avoid water marks. The fabric code check is how we decide.

Is it worth cleaning an older sofa?

Almost always, if the fabric is intact. Cleaning costs a fraction of replacement and removes the dirt, allergens and odors that make furniture look dingy and older than it is.

Do you clean outdoor cushions?

Yes, we clean a lot of outdoor cushions. We usually recommend bringing them to our shop rather than cleaning them on site, especially cushions that have been out in the weather. In the shop, heavily soiled cushions get recleaned as many times as it takes to get them as clean as possible. Pickup and delivery are available ($50 each way, same as rugs), and we can wrap and store your cushions over the winter so they're clean and ready in the spring. Call 317-876-9944 for storage pricing and scheduling.

Is stain removal on upholstery guaranteed?

We don't guarantee stain removal on upholstery, because there are so many different fabrics and each one reacts differently. We do clean every piece thoroughly, and in a lot of cases we can greatly reduce the stains. For tougher stains we often get better results in our shop, where we can clean and treat a piece several times. Your technician will look at the fabric and tell you what to expect before starting.
