How we do it

Area Rugs, expertly cleaned.

Oriental and wool rugs are not carpet. Dyes bleed, fringes tangle, and backing can be damaged by the wrong amount of water. We identify the fiber and construction first, then choose the process. Every rug is inspected before and after.

You have two options. We can clean the rug on-site in your home, which a lot of customers choose for maintenance. Or, for a deep cleaning, the rug can come to our Carmel shop for a full wash, which is the right call for valuable, heavily soiled or pet-contaminated rugs. We offer pickup and delivery.

On-site, in your home

$1.00 / sq ft

Pre-treatment and hot-water extraction on your floor. Good for synthetics and most wool rugs that just need a maintenance cleaning. Done on the same visit as your carpet or upholstery.

In our Carmel shop

Starting at $2.50 / sq ft

The full six-step process below: inspection, dry soil removal, pile brush or vacuum, wash, rinse, controlled drying, and a final inspection. The right choice for Oriental, silk, antique, heavily soiled or pet-affected rugs. Drop off at the shop, or ask about pickup and delivery. $50 minimum for any work in our shop.

Step by step

What happens on the visit.

  1. 01

    Inspection

A technician hand-inspects the rug for color bleeding, tears, dye fading, abrasion and pet contamination, and records it all on an inspection sheet before cleaning starts.

  2. 02

    Dry soil removal

The RugBadger delivers over 40,000 harmonic vibrations per minute into the back of the rug, shaking loose the dry soil and grit trapped in the foundation and between the fibers.

  3. 03

    Pile brush or vacuum

Depending on the rug type, the pile is brushed or vacuumed to lift out everything the dry soil removal shook loose.

  4. 04

    Wash

Each rug is washed one at a time with the method suited to its fiber content and dyes, fringe included.

  5. 05

    Rinse and dry

Excess moisture is extracted and a rinse returns the fibers to their natural state. Rugs dry completely in a climate-controlled area with air circulation.

  6. 06

    Final inspection

The rug is inspected again, rolled and wrapped in protective packaging for delivery or pickup.

Reviews

What customers say about our area rug work.

★★★★★
“After bringing in an area rug that had an intense stain I was greeted immediately by many friendly faces. The staff was courteous and professional and got my rug right in for cleaning. I picked the rug up a few weeks later and to my surprise the stain was gone! … I will definitely use them again and had a great all around experience.”

“I highly recommend Langenwalter Carpet Cleaning for your area rug cleaning. I had three cleaned and they look awesome! One kid rug had stains and dirt worked in quite well-haha! The red/orange color was bleeding into another when I tried to clean it. It looked terrible. The were able to "fix" it and get rid of the stains and dirt. Give them a chance with your rugs and carpet!”

“I have worked with Langenwalter for years, but they were especially helpful recently. I had an infestation of moths in one of my wool rugs. Langenwalter came out and cleaned all my area rugs (some 10 x 12) on both sides to ensure they were thoroughly cleaned. They were so helpful in moving furniture and making sure the rugs were left so they would dry properly…”

“We have an 8-foot round rug that had a big spot of cyan printer ink spilled on it. We took it to Langenwalter and they got the spot out! The rug looks like new! Thank you!”

Questions

Common questions

Should my rug be cleaned in-home or in the shop?

Synthetic rugs and most wool rugs in decent shape do well in-home, unless they are heavily soiled. Oriental, silk, antique, very soiled or pet-contaminated rugs should come to the shop, where we can dust, wash and dry them properly. We will tell you which during the walk-through or when you call.

How long does shop cleaning take?

Usually one to two weeks, depending on the rug and how many are ahead of it. Heavily soiled or odor-affected rugs can take longer because they are washed and dried more than once.

Do you pick up and deliver?

Yes, across our service area. Ask the office when you call and we will add it to the schedule.

Can you remove pet urine from a rug?

Usually. Urine in a rug needs a full wash to flush it out of the foundation, which is why pet-affected rugs go to the shop.

Do you guarantee stain removal on area rugs?

Not always. Every rug is different, so we handle stains case by case. A thorough cleaning often reduces stains a lot and makes them much less noticeable. When a rug needs more, we offer stain treatment at an additional cost. Email us a photo of your rug at [email protected], bring it to our shop, or have us look at it on site, and we'll tell you what we think can be done and give you a price before any work starts.

Do I need an appointment to drop off my rugs?

No appointment needed. Just stop by our Carmel shop at 4521 W. 99th Street any time Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, and someone will be here to check your rugs in.

Ready when you are.
