How we do it

When cleaning isn't enough.

Most of what we clean comes out with normal hot-water extraction. Specialty stain removal is for the spot that won't come out: the one that has been there since the holidays, the one somebody already attempted to remove, the one that keeps getting bigger. It is a separate line on the quote from the cleaning itself, and it is the work we have built our reputation on.

Red stains are the ones people call about most frequently: red wine, fruit punch, or the multi-color mess left behind by an art project. Blood removal is another common request and we guarantee our results. Coffee spills and brown rings each get their own special treatment. Water stains, the browning left when a spill or a leak dries, are something we work on regularly. Wood stains are a completely different beast: they come from wood furniture and furniture legs coming in contact with moisture on a damp carpet, and they take a specific approach. Rust from a metal chair leg or furniture caster needs a different approach entirely, which is exactly why we assess each problem individually.

Then there are other common stains which have bonded to the fiber. Nail polish, hair dye, paint, ink and makeup are dyes and pigments that have attached themselves to the carpet, and candle wax has to be lifted out of the pile before stain removal begins. Burns are trimmed, patched or repaired depending on the specific damage, under Carpet Repair. Bleach is a different problem, color loss: color has been removed rather than put in, and it is corrected by dyeing the fiber back to match.

Most pet stains and odors are removable too, though results depend on how extensive the damage is. Our pet stain page explains that in detail.

We have a technician on the crew who specializes in stain work and has spent decades on exactly this. It is why the second-opinion calls come to us, and why we will tell you plainly when something is not going to come out.

Before we start, you will know three things: what is involved, what it costs, and whether it is guaranteed. You decide. Pay for specialty stain removal on wall-to-wall carpet and that spot is covered for 30 days, with a spot out bottle left behind for anything that wicks back as the carpet dries. Area rugs and upholstery are handled case by case and are not automatically covered.

Step by step

What happens on the visit.

  1. 01

    Look at it

Point it out at the walk-through or email us a photo. We determine the fiber type and the stain, and discuss whatever has already been tried on it.

  2. 02

    Honest quote

We explain what is involved, what it costs, and whether it is guaranteed, before we begin.

  3. 03

    You decide

Full treatment, or attempting to remove it with thorough cleaning. Nothing happens that you have not agreed to in advance.

  4. 04

    Treatment guaranteed

We treat the spot, and paid specialty work is covered for 30 days. We also leave you a spot out bottle for unforeseen touch-ups, and we refill it for free the next time we're out.

Honest pricing

Quoted for your job, before we show up.

Specialty stain work is quoted separately from the cleaning, spot by spot, after we've looked at it. Point it out at the walk-through or email us a photo and you'll have a price before anything starts. Real ranges, not teaser rates. Every stain is different — the type, size and age of the spot change the price. Call and a real person gives you an honest price before we ever show up, not a surprise when the technician is already in your driveway.

“Langenwalter Carpet Cleaning did an amazing job removing a paint stain from our bedroom carpet! I spilled about a half cup of light blue paint on cream colored carpet and thought it was ruined forever. You cannot see or feel where the spill happened! We have used them for years and appreciate their great work!! Thank you!”

Questions

Common questions

Is stain removal included in carpet cleaning?

Ordinary spills, spots and traffic dirt will typically come out with cleaning. Specialty stain removal is for the problems that do not come out with cleaning, quoted separately so you can decide on each one.

Can you remove a stain that has been there for years?

Yes. Age can make some stains harder, especially if heat or the wrong product has set them, but it is rarely the deciding factor. We will tell you what is realistic after we inspect it.

Someone already tried to clean it. Does that matter?

It can. Store-bought spotters will occasionally set a stain or remove color from the carpet. Tell us what was used and we will have a better chance of correcting it.

What if the spot comes back?

Use the spot out bottle we leave to lift it off the fiber tips as the carpet dries. If that does not do it and the spot was paid specialty work, call within 30 days and we come back and touch it up at no charge.

Can you remove water stains?

Yes. The orange or gray water stains a spill or leak leaves as it dries are soil and minerals carried to the edge of the wet area. They respond well to treatment, and it is one of the most common specialty jobs we do.
